GOING AHEAD VS GETTING DRAGGED BACKWARDS

There is always one or the other thing which is there in trend and often becomes a cliche. One of those things is the ability on FB to let people know what’s on your mind or where you are or what you are doing at the very moment.
Some people are so fond of it that you can even track their location throughout the week.
Recently I saw one such post from friend saying “Chilling at – The Walkway”.  For reference of all you people “The Walkway” is a recently built Shopping Mall in my hometown. Well,  I would surely love  to use the word CITY for the place now, as it is surely taking big strides to become so.
Every time I enter my hometown there would be something new which would make me say ” Ab ye kab ban gaya ” (Now when did this get constructed)
5 Years back there were these small town markets which were the only places we relied on for anything we needed. Blackberry, PUMA, Levis were names unheard of. There were single screen theaters with the sound system of the level that you can’t hear the dialogues if people started chattering..
But today things have definitely taken a 360 degree turn, the small town markets are quickly fading away being replaced by multi storey complexes, roads are getting broader and the canals are now being covered by concrete.
People are quite excited about all these developments, but the point to ponder here is “on what cost are we getting these things”?
I vividly remember my hometown was called a green city when I was a child, but as I grew old the name started fading away. The tall eucalyptus trees that once shadowed the streets are no more there; they have been cut to make the streets broader.
The locality in which I used to live had a peculiar landmark. There was a big old mango tree there. Anybody coming to our place for the first time was often instructed to get down at the Mango tree. It was so big and dense that we often took shelter under it when it rained.
But now sadly the old tree is also not there anymore. It has been replaced; just like the landmark for my home has been changed from a huge mango tree to a Restaurant and a multi brand complex.
P: S: Concluding this I would just sum up and say I do not have any issues with developing cities but that should not be at the cost of greenery and trees.  I sometimes wonder  are we moving ahead or dragging ourselves backwards?

  1. Well said. I am a blogger too, and I agree with all of your statements. And these things are even experienced by me. We should develop our area but at the same time we should take care that there is no harm to the environment.
